How to use this calculator
Type the American odds for both sides of a market (a spread, total, moneyline or prop). For a soccer 3-way or any market with a draw, fill in side 3. The green or red line grades the hold, and the table shows each side’s fair probability and fair odds. Copy the result to share a market.
Typical hold by market
| Market | Example prices | Hold |
|---|---|---|
| Reduced juice spread | -105 / -105 | 2.38% |
| Standard spread / total | -110 / -110 | 4.55% |
| Moneyline favorite/dog | -150 / +130 | 3.36% |
| Player prop | -125 / -105 | 6.35% |
| Soccer 3-way | +150 / +230 / +200 | 3.51% |
The no-vig price is the market’s best estimate of the true probability. Use it as your win probability in the EV calculator or Kelly calculator, or compare it to a PrizePicks breakeven in the PrizePicks calculator. When a line moves, the no-vig number moves with it — see the line movement checker.
FAQ
What is hold in sports betting?
Hold is the share of the money a sportsbook expects to keep on a market if bets are balanced: 1 − 1 ÷ (sum of implied probabilities). A -110/-110 market has about 4.55% hold.
How do you calculate the vig on a bet?
Convert each side to implied probability (e.g. -110 = 52.38%), add them up (104.76%), and the hold is 1 − 1 ÷ 1.0476 = 4.55%. To remove the vig, divide each side’s implied probability by the total.
What is a good hold percentage?
Lower is better for you. Under 3% is sharp (reduced-juice or very liquid markets), 4–5% is standard for spreads and totals, and player props, futures and parlays often run 8–30%. Compare books before you bet.
